Located 2 miles outside of the historic village of
Milford, Pennsylvania, this small office building is on a wooded site
populated with a number of truly significant trees; consequently, an
arborist worked with the architects to develop unobtrusive stone parking
areas to minimize runoff and retain the sites natural features. The building
materials include flat cedar siding, bluestone pavers, and terne-coated
stainlesss steel roofing, which echo the site’s colorations.
The building’s side profile (which is a simple double shed roof) allows
for natural ventilation during this mountainous area’s cool summers through
continuous high clerestory windows. Deep overhangs provide passive solar
shading to the large work space which faces southwest.
The project received an Honor Award for design from the Northeastern
Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Institute of Architects in 2004.
