This single-story oral surgery center which was shoehorned onto a very confined site uses a space carved out of it’s sloped roof to conceal the building’s heating and cooling equipment; thin linear elements of a steel-and-cedar screen conceal this mechanical platform from view and give an unexpected dynamic quality to an otherwise very simple building. Cedar ‘columns’ and concrete ‘bollards’ at the side street protect the surgical operatories from any errant drivers and activate an otherwise plain façade.
